Is it getting bettet at all with COVID19 in Jeju?
Jeju made a new record of 64 cases(#2079~2142) of infection on August 15th. This came after 39 on the 14th and 55 on the 13th.
Community contraction led to this result. The biggest is from a private academy of middle school students. 28 people(#2079, 2080, 2082~2085, 2088, 2091, 2092, 2094, 2106~2108, 2110, 2113~2115, 2118~2121, 2123, 2124, 2126~2128, 2132, 2134) were influenced, among them, 24 are students.
Jeju daycare center added 1(#2095), and social gatherings did 4(#2102, 2103, 2109, 2129).

The problem is that there can be more. And it is highly possible as students got infected.
So, Jeju government decided to take the social distance regulations to Level 4. This takes effect as the midnight of August 17th. You cannot hang out with more than 3 people after 6pm as a result. Many harsher rules will apply.

Vaccination is undergoing. However, even the vaccinated can't be sure of safety as variants are spreading over.
For now, wearing a mask and keeping away from crowds are the best option.

Jeju is facing the hardest time with COVID19 ever since the outbreak last year.
It seemed it was getting control over it as the daily cases came around 10.
But, it rebounded to 28 cases(#1890~1917) on August 10th, 23 cases(#1918~1940) on the 11th. Then, it got doubled to 44(#1941~1984) on the 12th, and 55(#1985~2039) on the 13th.

So, Jeju cases surpassed two thousands in total at last. July saw the most infections ever. It is unclear it will come to a rest as summer vacation is still hanging on.

The continuing community infection is another reason of making the situation look uncertain.

More COVID19 cases are following with speeding down from 20s to tens a day in Jeju, August.
Specific numbers are 12(#1753~1764) on the 1st, and, the next day, 21(#1765~1785), then, 23명(#1786~1808) on the 3rd, 24명(#1809~1832) on the 4th이었다. On the 5th saw 16명(#1833~1848), 13(#1849~1861) on the 6th, 5(#1862~1866) on the 7th, and 11(#1867~1877) on the 8th.

Community cases like from company 5 are still worrisome, but it seems declining. The peak vacation season end is giving a good chance of better situation.

It has been a tough month for Jeju along with the whole Korea as the COVID19 cases have been getting close to 'out of control'. Seoul has seen the hardest time at all, followed by Gyeonggi-do and a few other regions. The S&G stepped into 'Level 4' restrictions, and Jeju 'Level 3'.

Everyone, not 'every one' apparently, though, is trying so hard to getting this forrth wave to an end. But, it doesn't seem easy as the great number of tourists are rushing into the island because it's the peak season of year as they have a vacation during the last week of July and the first one of August.

COVID19 Cases In July

Jeju has zero case of COVID19 yesterday after 71 days since April 12.
The increase of new daily infection has, thus, come to an end with two on June 19th, three on the 20th, and one on the 21st. It all started with the college wrestling athletes on May 4th with some group infection cases followed.

The statistics reads that it has had 27 cases for the last week, which averaged up to 3.86 a day dropping from 5.14.
But, June recored 192 cases which is the second most next to last month.

The R0 for the virus went down to 0.58 that means it is under control. The number of quarantined decreased to 609(231 contacted, 378 from abroad), which topped over 2,000.
Jeju, however, keeps a close eye on the mutant virus thay may lead to more community infection.

COVID19 cases are still increasing in Jeju since early May.

It had 7 cases(#996~1002) on May 27th, 13(#1003~1015) on the 28th, 8(#1016~1023) on the 29th, 7(#1024~1030) on the 30th, and 12(#1031~1042) on the last day of May.

It went on to 14(#1043~1056) on the first day of June, 12(#1057~1068) on the 2nd, 21(#1069~1089) on the 3rd, 22(#1090~1111) on the 4th, 19(#1112~1130) on the 5th, and 13(#1131~1143) on the 6th. It had 8 cases(#1144~1151) on the 6th, which is the first time to have the number under 10 in the new month.

According to Jeju, the total cases in Jeju summed up to 1,042 as of June 1st at 11:00 am. It had cases every day in May, which got 328 tested postive. This surpassed 87 cases in April by 241 more, which is 3.8 times. This means May portioned 52.8% of the year-to-date number of 621.

It was the second that had more than 300 cases in a month after December which had the 3rd epidemic since the first case on February 21st last year.

Jeju analyzed that May 'the month of family' made people contact more in families and groups and led them to bigger numbers of COVID19 positive. The relevant proofs are that small collective infection in family, schools, and daily lives.

In May, 15 days had more than 10 cases in a day. This means 10.6 people every day. The worst was 26.

Out of 328 new cases in May, 302(92%) were Jeju residents. 225(68.6%) were chased to have been infected by contacting other patients. This was different from April when 71.2%(62 pax) got contracted after visiting other region, meeting people who tested positive later, or traveling from abroad.

■ Herd infection has contributed the big increase since the varsity athletes on May 3rd, to public places like singing rooms, and to private zones like schools, companies, etc.

Family gathering and wedding reception parties became the spreader of the coronavirus since the mid May.

149 people, 45.4% of the whole cases in May, are by cluster infection. 66 of them are from the varsity group, which is the biggest. 24 are from companies and wedding receptions, 14 from a family reunion, 12 from restaurants, 12 from public baths, 9 from friend-gatherings, 7 from a company in Seogwipo city, and 5 from a clan gathering.

■ The R0, or reproduction numbers, that means how many infections a confirmed person bring out, rose up to 2.28 in May, but it got down to 0.98 now.

It changed as 1.13(4.27~5.3) → 2.28(5.4~10) → 0.90(5.11~17) → 0.98(5.18~24) → 0.98(5.25~31) in Jeju.

New cases of COVID19 in Jeju never seem to decrease. Jeju had rough days with 19 cases(May 23rd), 17 cases(May 24th), 6 cases(May 25th), and 18 cases(May 26th) after the numbers were under 10 on May 20th(5), May 21st(7), and May 22nd(8) each.

Another group infection emerged at a draft beer shop near Jeju City hall. It has 8 cases confirmed since May 24th. They are known to have worked May 21~25. 5 of them are in theire 20s.

Beside this, Jeju has been practicing testing on people who might have contacted patients in Seogwipo City at Beophwan Community Center, the male section of Hyeondae Public Bath, and Jeju Palace Restaurant.

It was also announced that 30 cases were infected with mutant coronavirus; 29 with British one, and 1 with Indian one. The latter is a case of a person came to Jeju from abroad.

The herd infection of athletes showed 20 were with the British one.

Is it a sign of falling of new cases of COVID19 infection?

Jeju had only 4 cases of the infection on May 18th after two weeks' tough time with more than 10 cases (even 24 on May 10th) on most dates.

It began with wrestling atheletes of a university infected on May 4th, when had 9 cases. The coronavirus has contracted 63 people so far. This has been revealed that young people moved around, which had more chanced of infecting each other noraebang(karaoke rooms), internet cafes, and so on.

A family gathering for spiritual service has set a big shade of the virus as much as 17 cases till now.

A public bath became a center for 12 patients.

And there are 8 cases going back to cases 851 and 852(May 9th) who are related to Gwangju case 2565.

According to the analysis by Jeju today, it has had 480 cases this year only. 187 are from this month, which is the biggest number of all. Out of the 187, 171 are Jejuites. 136 from 187 were infected by contacting infected people in Jeju. It spreaded more through families, friends, etc.

Honeymooners to Jeju Island test positive for COVID19 as more tourists are visiting the island.
Jeju case 68p and 683 on April 20th arrived in Jeju on April 19th for honeymoon. A worker at the company of 683's got contracted.
Jeju case 672 is one of the honeymoon couple. They were supposed to leave Jeju on that day after 4 nights. The patient showed symptoms since the morning.

Infection of family tourists continue as well.
Cases 678 and 679 on April 20th came to Jeju on the 17th with one more family.
Case 676 on the 19th was visiting the island with one family member since the 16th.
Case 674 on the 18th got to Jeju with 3 more family.

More tourists to Jeju test positive for COVID19 as the number of visitors is arising.
The five cases(#640~644) on April 7th are one of those.
