1 patient out, 3 still in bed, and 1 suicide while in quarantine.

Jeju had a dramatic week for COVID19 pandemic as one Korean was discharged on June 24, three Bangladeshian students tested positive on June 18th, and 1 Korean committed suicide while she was in quarantine on June 22nd.

1. Jeju patient 16 was relieved from hospital on June 24.

She contacted few people, especially '0' after arriving in Jeju. And, it took only 8 days before she tested negative.

2. 3 Bangladeshian students got positive results at the walk-through clinic at the airport.

They came to Jeju to begin exchange students program at Halla University. They were in a group with 15 others, all of whom had 'negative' results.

3. A female was found dead in her room while she was in quarantine at a local facility on June 22.

She was transferred to the place after she was in the same flight with te3 Bangladeshian students. She was reported to have subscriptions related with mental problems.

Jeju has kept countermeasures against COVID19 very well so far, which can be understood from that it has had no community infection, yet. But, tourist season is close, and the concerns are rising. For example, an Ansan resident who visited Jeju from June 15 till June 18. She tested positive She was revealed keeping traveling in spite of fever, taking 10 antifebrille pills. Jeju government had to file a lawsuit against her. People are worried that more tourists may heighten the possibilities like this.

Jeju on Thursday night confirmed 3 of 18 foreign students tested positive for COVID19 on their first day in South Korea.
The 3 patients are from Bangladesh, who arrived at Incheon International Airport, transited to Gimpo airport, and took a flight to Jeju.

They followed the instructions to take tests at the walk-through screening clinic at the airport. The results came out late at night on the same day.
So, Jeju has 4 people infected by coronavirus as of June 19th.

Jeju on Tuesday announced that it confirmed 16th case of coronavirus infection.
The patient is a male in his 20s, who returned from North America on June 11th via Incheon International Airport.
He had no symptoms on arrival. And he had a test at the walk-thru clinic at Jeju airport.
He has been self-quarantined at parents' alone since, and had more tests on June 12th. The results were 'not decided'. So, he had more the next day, and got postive result at around 3pm.

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on Sunday announced that its 15th coronavirus patient was discharged at about 5 pm.
This made Jeju COVID19-free in 36 days since May 8th, when No. 14 tested positive after visiting King Club in Seoul. Thr 14th patient returned home from hospital one day before the 15th.

The 14th coronavirus patient in Jeju was discharged from hospital on Friday the 12th, Jeju announced.
The patient in her 30s tested positive for COVID19 on May 9th after she visited King Club in Itaewon, Seoul on May 5th.
This made Jeju clear from the Itaewon case. And it has only 1 patient still left in treatment.

New Zealand reportedly lifts most of all its coronavirus restrictions. It's a decision after it has had no active cases recently.
As a result, people are able to go back to work, school, sports events and domestic travel. This means the beginning of the new normal.
This is the first case of a country that locked the society down. So, it will draw great attentions from the rest of the world. Hooray for Kiwis!

Korea hasn't gone through nationwide lockdown, but practiced social distancing so far. It's been quite successful containing positive cases within control.
This may lead to easing cautiousness of people, which brings worrisome increase of infection cases for last weeks.
Experts have more concerns now as all schools are open even with new rules because new possible clusters are revealed. Hot weather gives more headaches for them as wearing a face mask is getting more difficult.
For Jeju, it has been walking on thin ice. It has done pretty wonderful works preventing massive spreading from happening. The problem lies with its tourism industry.
People, who are frustrated with no chance of traveling abroad, make more visits to Jeju. This raises possibilities of coronavirus infection although Jeju has no community contagion from tourists.
I'd like to look on the bright side that Jeju will have little chance of going to the opposite direction from this fact.

Hooray for Jeju, too!

Shinsegae Duty Free reportedly has decided to cancel the plan to enter the downtown duty free market in Jeju Island.

According to Jejusori, the duty free giant in Korea on Monday told the newspaper that they will not proceed launching a new downtown duty free shop, saying "We are not sure if we can obtain a new duty free license because of COVID19. We will pay 2 billion as the penalty to terminate the contract to purchase the land, and stop the project." And it added "Shinsegae is still interested in entering Jeju duty free market, but made up our mind to take a next chance."

If it weren't for the coronavirus pandemic and the original plan went on successful, Shinsegae duty free shop Jeju would be around double the size of existing downtown duty free stores operated by Lotte Duty Free and The Shilla Duty Free in Jeju.

Shinsegae plans to knock down an existing ten-storey hotel and build a 38,000sq m facility, with 15,400sq m of floor space, spread across seven floors above ground and seven below. As well as retail floor space, the store will have 303 parking spaces and room for other amenities.

Jeju is now facing a new danger of COVID19 as the 15th case is confirmed and a group of tourists tested postive after returning from a very recent trip to Jeju. The latter holds a worse possible fear to people.

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on Sunday made a few announcements about the status of COVID19 related to the latest confirmation of the 15th patient and travellers from Gyeonggi area.

1. The 15th Case(F, 34)

She followed the public protocol for prevention of infecting other people. She made contacting others minimum, which resulted in only 25 including 2 family members. The others are passengers on her flight to Jeju(OZ8995). And she always wore a face mask.

2. Tourist Group From Gyeongi-do Province

They visited 15 places, and contacted 119 people during the trip from May 25 to May 27.

6(It isn't 9 as I wrote earlier) out of 25 tested positive after they went back home. This includes a primary school student who DID go to school on May 28. 

People are upset with the group as they visited Jeju in a big herd, which is not recommend in this coronavirus pandemic. They feel angry more with the fact that they are from churches in Anyang City & Gunpo City, as they have seen some churches didn't follow (central & local) governments' restrictions to hold off masses.

It isn't sure, but Jeju have had no community infection so far. That's why I believe, and hope there will be no new example set up from this.

Jeju confirmed it has the 15th coronavirus case on May 30th.

According to its announcement late at night, a woman(34) tested positive at about 7:10pm.
She came to Jeju on the 29th via Incheon International airport at 5:30pm same day from the US. And she visited Seogwipo healthcare center next day at around 2:00pm.
She told the authority she rode to home from Jeju airport, and stayed self-quarantined till getting test.

<제주도내 15번째 코로나19 확진자 발생 안내>

미국발 입국자 A씨(34세, 여)가 30일 오후 7시 10분경 코로나19 확진판정을 받았습니다.

A씨는 5월 29일 오후 5시 30분경 미국에서 인천공항으로 입국한 뒤 같은 날 오후 10시 20분경 제주에 입도하였으며, 30일 오후 2시경 서귀포보건소를 방문하여 검사를 실시하였습니다.

A씨는 제주공항에서 자가용을 이용해 자택으로 귀가한 후 자가격리에 들어갔으며, 검사 전까지 외부활동이나 이동은 없었다고 진술하였습니다.

Lotte & Shilla Duty-free shops are closing temporarily from June 1st.
According to Jejusori, the two duty-free giants made a decision to shut down until further notice. They have managed to run the business after the coronavirus outbreak. But 3 billion won(nearly 2.8 million dollars) loss every month ever since gave them no other choice.
